Heart and Sole 5K

Lace up for a truly impactful event at the Heart and Sole 5K, hitting the streets of Mitchell, SD, on May 2, 2026. This popular 5K run/walk is more than just a race; it's a powerful stride for community support, with all proceeds dedicated to providing financial assistance for local cancer patients, ensuring that all funds stay within the local community. Since adding a 5K run in 2002, the Mitchell Heart & Sole Cancer Walk has distributed over $600,000 to residents bravely fighting cancer, making it a cherished community tradition with a clear sense of purpose and a supportive atmosphere for participants of all abilities.

The course itself offers a tour through community streets, starting and concluding on Norway Street, directly across from the DWU/Avera Sports & Wellness Complex at 500 W Norway. Runners will navigate a route heading east on Norway, north on Duff, east on Hurst, south on Rowley, east on Cabelas, west on Spruce, north on Rowley, and finally back west to Norway Avenue. This street-based course is ideal for those looking for a straightforward run through the heart of Mitchell. Typical race day conditions in early May feature comfortable highs around 64°F and lows around 41°F, with only a 10% chance of precipitation, creating pleasant running weather for participants.

Race day registration opens at 7:30 AM at the entrance of the DWU/Avera Sports & Wellness Complex, with the official 5K starting at 8:00 AM. This event is a demonstration of local care and solidarity, offering an inspiring experience whether you're aiming for a personal best or walking in support of a vital cause. As an added bonus, the first 25 participants to register will receive a complimentary Heart & Sole swag bag.
