Heat the Streets Run

Lace up for the 19th Annual Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth, returning to Omaha's vibrant Aksarben Village on Saturday, March 7, 2026. This popular event offers a timed 10K race, alongside a 5K and an untimed 2-mile walk, inviting runners of all levels to hit the pavement for a crucial cause. Participants will enjoy a fast and flat road course, winding through the energetic Aksarben Village area, with the start and finish lines located near 67th & Shirley Streets.

More than just a race, Heat the Streets is a powerful community effort, with 100% of proceeds benefiting local utility assistance programs. Since 2007, this annual event, hosted by Metropolitan Utilities District and Omaha Public Power District, has helped countless neighbors pay their utility bills, especially during the colder months. Runners consistently praise the event for its "great cause" and lively atmosphere, with past years seeing record participation and funds raised. Typical race day conditions in early March bring crisp air, with highs around 47F and lows around 26F, and a minimal 6% chance of precipitation, providing ideal running weather.

Hydration will be readily available with water stations on the course, including one staffed by Fleet Feet, and a M.U.D. hydration station conveniently located near the start/finish area. Post-race, the festive atmosphere continues with vendors and local businesses in Aksarben Village, where participants can also enjoy coffee and hot cocoa to warm up.
