About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable trail running adventure at the Hellz Bellz Ultra, taking place on July 5, 2026, in Yacolt, Washington. Produced by Bivouac Racing, this challenging event offers a 50-mile Ultra, the rigorous Hellz Gate 50K, and the formidable Purgatory Trail Marathon. Known as a hidden gem, runners consistently praise the amazing vistas and pristine trails of the Yacolt area.

The Hellz Bellz Ultra course begins with an escorted transfer from Yacolt Recreation Park to Moulton Falls Regional Park, immediately plunging runners into an intense, grueling single-track climb up Bells Mountain. This 100% unpaved course traverses clear cuts, stream crossings, and offers stunning views of Mount St. Helens. The 50-mile race features approximately 9,000 feet of ascent and descent over terrain characterized by substantial rocks, roots, and ruts. A significant counter-clockwise loop on the Tarbell Trail is a highlight, presenting technical climbs, breathtaking views, and epic waterfalls in the day's most scenic section. The Purgatory Trail Marathon also presents a formidable challenge, with roughly 6,000 feet of elevation change.

Aid stations are strategically placed, though runners should carry at least 32oz of hydration for longer stretches. The Yacolt Burn Aid Station, a key drop bag location (miles 12 and 34 for 50M), is renowned for its lively Possum Lodge hosts and a full grill. Pacers are welcome for the final descent, culminating in a triumphant "Ring the Bell!" at the Moulton Falls Arch Bridge finish. Expect typical race day conditions of highs around 77°F and lows near 50°F, with minimal precipitation, ideal for summer trail running. Tent camping is available at Yacolt Recreation Park, providing a full weekend experience alongside the Yacolt Rendezvous Festival Days.
