Lace up for an unforgettable adventure at the Hickory Knolls Trail Run and Relay, set to take place on June 7, 2026, in scenic St. Charles, Illinois. This event offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Hickory Knolls Nature Area, with options for a 5K, 10K, and a 2-person 10K relay where each team member completes a 5K loop. The approximate 3-mile loop course winds through diverse natural habitats, including savannas, woodlands, and prairies, providing a beautiful backdrop for your run.
The well-marked trails are primarily wide-track, making for comfortable running alongside friends or easy passing. The course features grass and dirt paths, starting with a relatively flat section before introducing a couple of engaging hills in the latter half of the loop. Runners should be prepared for uneven ground, exposed roots, and occasional low branches, adding to the authentic trail running experience. Typical race day conditions in early June boast pleasant highs around 79F and lows around 57F, with only an 18% chance of precipitation, creating ideal weather for hitting the trails.
The race starts and finishes at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, providing convenient access to washrooms. While there are no on-course water stations for individual 5K runners, 10K participants can access water at the start/finish area as they begin their second loop, and bottled water is available for all at the finish line. As a proud part of the Dick Pond Athletics Darn Tough Trail Race Series, the Hickory Knolls Trail Run and Relay promises a rewarding challenge and a chance to connect with nature, all while supporting the St. Charles Park District Foundation.
