Embark on an unforgettable trail adventure at the Hoof It on the Hill race, set to challenge and inspire runners on May 30, 2026, in the scenic Boutwell Hill State Forest in Cherry Creek, NY. This esteemed event, now in its sixth year, offers a range of distances including a 52K ultra, 26K, 12K, and 6K, catering to diverse running aspirations. Typical race day conditions in late May bring comfortable highs around 74F and lows around 50F, with a modest 16% chance of precipitation, promising a refreshing backdrop for your run.

The course itself is a true highlight, winding through picturesque pine and hardwood forests, serene meadows, and across various creeks and streams. Runners should anticipate a dynamic terrain featuring steep hills, single track and technical trails, double track/snowmobile trails, and sections of forest road. Prepare to get wet and muddy, as this is a genuine trail experience designed to connect you with nature. Elevation gains vary by distance, with the 52K tackling approximately 2600 feet, the 26K around 1300 feet, the 12K around 630 feet, and the 6K presenting about 300 feet of climb. For the longer distances, the 52K runners will complete two loops of the 26K course, which includes a short stretch of asphalt road.

Hoof It on the Hill stands out as a fundraising effort dedicated to supporting the Chautauqua County Equestrian Trail System (CCETS), maintained by passionate volunteers. This community-focused race is "Trail Sisters Approved", embraces inclusivity by welcoming hikers in all distances, and offers generous cutoffs, ensuring a supportive atmosphere for every participant. Essential aid is well-distributed: the 6K has no dedicated aid stations, the 12K features one water stop, while the 26K loop provides two aid stations and two water stops. For the 52K and 26K distances, runners will find well-stocked aid stations at the Ruttenbur start/finish and Boutwell Hill, offering water, electrolyte drinks, and a variety of ultra-friendly foods such as peanut butter & jelly, M&Ms, pretzels, and fruit. Crews and drop bags are also permitted at these designated locations for 26K and 52K runners.
