Lace up for the annual Hornet Dash on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Medina, OH, a vibrant community event offering both a chip-timed 5K and a 1-Mile Fun Run. This engaging race, hosted at Highland High School, brings together runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels for a morning of active fun while supporting a vital cause. Proceeds from the Hornet Dash benefit the Highland Foundation for Educational Excellence, directly contributing to scholarships and grants that enhance Highland Local Schools.
The 5K course offers a dynamic running experience, starting and finishing at the Highland High School Stadium and winding through a delightful mixture of road and trail over varied terrain. For those opting for the 1-Mile Fun Run, the journey features a lap around the High School Campus, also over varied terrain, often led by enthusiastic high school students. Packet pick-up and on-site registration open at 7:30 AM inside the stadium, with the 1-Mile Fun Run kicking off at 8:30 AM and the 5K following at approximately 9:00 AM. Typical race day conditions in early June include highs around 78°F and lows around 56°F, with an approximately 18% chance of precipitation, creating generally pleasant running weather.
Beyond the races, the Hornet Dash is celebrated for its lively community atmosphere, featuring family-friendly activities like balloon art and face painting. All registered participants receive a commemorative t-shirt, and the first 300 finishers will earn a custom medal, a special touch for your achievement. Runners can enjoy post-race refreshments available for purchase, including coffee, Gatorade, and breakfast items, along with Kona Ice. A unique highlight is the Alumni Decade Challenge, which fosters friendly competition among Highland alumni decades, culminating in a scholarship award for a graduating senior.
