Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon

Embark on an unforgettable running journey through the heart of Kentucky's iconic Bluegrass Region at the 11th Annual Horse Capital Marathon & Half Marathon. Scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky, this event offers both a full 26.2-mile marathon and a 13.1-mile half marathon, inviting runners to experience one of the most scenic courses in the United States. Runners will be captivated by breathtaking views as the predominantly country road course winds past over 50 Central Kentucky horse farms, ensuring you're never out of sight of the majestic equine landscape. Typical race day conditions in early April feature comfortable highs around 67°F and lows near 44°F, with a modest 19% chance of precipitation, offering ideal running weather.

The course, characterized by its rolling hills, presents a rewarding challenge for participants, with the half marathon featuring approximately 570 feet of elevation gain and the full marathon climbing around 1260 feet. Both races begin and end at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground Area, with a brief section on the paved Legacy Trail at the start and finish. Marathoners will find ample support with 17 hydration stations, while half marathoners will utilize 8 stations, all spaced approximately every 1.5-1.75 miles and providing water and electrolyte drinks. Each station also includes at least one portable restroom. As a bonus, the full marathon is a Boston Marathon Qualifier, adding an extra incentive for those chasing a coveted BQ.
