About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of West Virginia at the Hurricane Hundred K, set for Saturday, September 19, 2026. This challenging 100K trail race, now in its 5th edition, invites solo ultrarunners and three-person relay teams to conquer 62 glorious miles of single-track mountain running on the renowned Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane, WV. Expect a course that is 100% single-track, hand-built by dedicated volunteers, featuring plenty of small hills and an elevation profile that is hilly, with an approximate 2500-7500 feet of climb over 50 miles. While the terrain includes some roots, rocks, and ruts, the stunning natural beauty of the Meeks Mountain Trails provides a picturesque backdrop for this unique West Virginia ultra.

The Hurricane Hundred K distinguishes itself as the *only* 100K trail race in West Virginia, offering a substantial $10,000 prize purse for solo runners, along with a course record bonus, and awards for top relay teams. Runners will navigate six demanding 10.3-mile loops, with aid readily available at two well-stocked stations per loop. The central aid station at the start/finish, located at the shelter in Hurricane City Park, goes above and beyond with hot foods like broth, noodles, tater tots, pancakes, and quesadillas, plus Little Caesars pizza from 11 AM, alongside standard ultra fare, ice cream, and donuts. An on-course aid station at mile 5 of each loop ensures continuous support. Pacers are permitted for solo runners during the final two loops.

More than just a race, the Hurricane Hundred K boasts a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere, making it a true community event. The race headquarters is a hub of activity, welcoming crews, families, and spectators with games, a spray park, nature hikes, and even live bluegrass music. As a Trail Sisters approved event, the race is committed to equal opportunities for female runners, offering specific swag, equal podium spots, prize money, and menstrual products at aid stations. Typical race day conditions in mid-September include highs around 81°F and lows around 57°F, with only a 10% chance of precipitation, providing generally favorable weather for a thrilling day on the trails.
