Lace up for a meaningful morning at the inaugural Hustle for Homes 5K, taking place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in vibrant Detroit, Michigan. This exciting 5K run/walk offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to Community & Home Supports (CHS), an organization dedicated to providing essential housing services and stability for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. Your participation helps fund crucial resources such as essential documentation, move-in costs, and vital wraparound services, transforming miles into homes.

The race kicks off at 9:00 AM from the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard, near 3019 Orleans Street. The course itself is a highlight, traversing the historic Dequindre Cut, a paved greenway nestled 25 feet below street level. This former railroad corridor offers a relatively flat route, perfect for chasing a personal best or enjoying a leisurely stroll, with separate lanes for pedestrians and bicycles. Runners can anticipate scenic views as they move from Eastern Market towards the Detroit Riverfront. Typical race day conditions in early July include highs around 84°F and lows around 65°F, with a 14% chance of precipitation.

Packet pickup begins at 7:30 AM on race day near the start line, and participants can take advantage of ample free parking around the Eastern Market area. Aid stations with water are anticipated at miles 1 and 2, and public restrooms will be available at Eastern Market and along the Dequindre Cut. Beyond the finish line, the festivities continue at the Freight Yard, with opportunities to explore Detroit's riverfront district and Eastern Market. Be sure to register early to guarantee your commemorative race shirt and secure one of the custom finisher medals, available for the first 250 registrants. Strollers are welcome and will start behind runners and walkers, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants.
