The Kennekuk Road Runners - Lake Mingo race, celebrating its 28th annual running on June 13, 2026, invites runners to conquer a challenging yet picturesque 7.1-mile course through Kennekuk Cove County Park in Danville, IL. This event is a true trail runner's delight, with 90% single-track dirt trail, 7% grasslands, and 3% rock and asphalt underfoot. Prepare for numerous hills, nine bridges, and marshlands as the route circles the beautiful Lake Mingo, even taking you across its long earthen dam and a smaller gated dam. As you navigate the deep woods, keep an eye out for abundant wildlife, including deer, wild turkeys, geese, wood ducks, and majestic blue herons.

What makes this race truly unique is its alternating course direction; on even years like 2026, runners will tackle the course counter-clockwise, offering a fresh perspective even for returning participants. Typical race day conditions in mid-June bring highs around 84°F and lows around 62°F, with an 18% chance of precipitation, meaning you might find yourself hot and seeking hydration, or potentially navigating some wet and muddy sections, possibly even a creek crossing if bridges are impacted by weather. A single aid station, located halfway through the course, will provide water, various beverages, and limited snacks to keep you fueled.
