Embark on a unique trail running experience at the Lady of the Lake, set to take place on November 14, 2026, in the picturesque mountain town of Blairsville, GA. This annual event offers participants the choice of an 8-hour or 4-hour timed race, allowing runners to complete as many laps as desired on a beautiful 1-mile loop around Lake Trahlyta, nestled at the base of the majestic Coosa and Blood mountains. Typical race day conditions in mid-November feature comfortable highs around 61F and lows near 32F, with a minimal 15% chance of precipitation.
The course itself is a runner's delight, described as gently rolling and very runnable, making it accessible for various skill levels. Runners will navigate a diverse terrain composed primarily of hard-pack pea gravel and some single track, with a very short paved section. Approximately a quarter of the trail presents a modestly technical challenge with winding turns, moderate elevation changes on dirt single-track paths, and occasional roots and rocks. With a starting elevation around 1800 feet, each mile-long loop includes an estimated 50-100 feet of elevation gain, ensuring a dynamic and engaging run amidst 95% un-paved trails.
Adding to the supportive atmosphere, a well-stocked aid station is conveniently located at the start/finish line, providing an array of "typical" ultra-running fuel including bananas, oranges, cookies, chips, candy, PB&J, and even grilled cheese. Hydration options include water, Gatorade, and Coke; however, runners should note that this is a cupless race and are encouraged to carry their own water bottles or hydration packs. The Lady of the Lake also stands out for its unique homage to Cherokee Indian Princess Trahlyta, whose legend is intertwined with the lake's history, and proceeds from the race benefit Vogel State Park. All participants receive a jacket and a finisher medal, with awards for the top three male and female runners in both the 4-hour and 8-hour divisions who complete the most full laps.
