Typical race day conditions in early October present crisp highs around 67F and lows near 33F, with a minimal 6% chance of precipitation, creating ideal cool-weather running.

The course, renowned for being tough and challenging, takes runners through single-track forested trails and exposed alpine environments, featuring significant elevation changes and aggressive climbs. The 55K route boasts approximately 7,000 feet of elevation gain, reaching a high point of 8,550 feet, with hiking poles highly recommended to navigate the rugged, inspiring landscapes. Half-marathon participants will also experience considerable ascents, with about 2,372 feet of gain and a high point of 7,600 feet, following the Big Wood River before tackling the Oregon Fox Connector trail. Both distances start and finish at Oregon Gulch via Curly's, utilizing well-marked steep single-track loops, clearly indicated with pink flags for easy navigation.
