License to Fly 5k

Embark on a captivating journey with the inaugural License to Fly 5k, set to take flight on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the charming town of Coats, NC. This exciting new 5K race invites runners to experience a scenic course that begins and ends near the vibrant mural in Downtown Coats. As the first running of this event, it promises a fresh and engaging experience for all participants.

The License to Fly 5k is a professionally chip-timed event, ensuring accurate results as you push for your personal best. Medals will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, along with age group medals in categories ranging from 14 and under to 70 and up. Beyond the thrill of the race, your participation supports a wonderful cause, as all proceeds benefit The Coats Lions Club. This race is also a fantastic opportunity to kick off your involvement in the Harnett County race series, which includes events in Erwin and Dunn. Typical race day conditions in early May feature comfortable lows around 56°F, climbing to highs of approximately 81°F, with a modest 16% chance of precipitation.
