Lace up for a truly unforgettable and challenging experience at the Loup Garou Trail Run on December 5, 2026, in Ville Platte, Louisiana. This unique event, named after the legendary Cajun werewolf, offers distances of 20M, 40M, 60M, and a formidable 100M, drawing runners to the heart of Chicot State Park for what promises to be "the most Louisiana trail you will find." Known for its exceptional Cajun hospitality and a course that defies expectations, this year marks a significant milestone as it celebrates its 10th and final edition, making it a must-do for trail runners seeking a memorable send-off.

The course itself is a demanding 20-mile loop encircling the picturesque Lake Chicot, primarily consisting of singletrack trails (approximately 95% un-paved) that wind through breathtaking cypress swamps, dense piney woods, and lush hardwood forests. Runners will traverse numerous long wooden bridges that span the eerie beauty of the swamps, which, while visually stunning, can be quite slippery. Contrary to flat South Louisiana stereotypes, the Loup Garou Trail Run surprises with significant elevation changes, boasting around 2,000 feet of gain per loop, featuring technical sections and short, steep climbs. Expect rooty stretches, often concealed by fallen leaves, adding to the technical challenge, especially if race day conditions include the typical early December mud from prior rainfall.

Runners are supported by four well-stocked aid stations per loop, staffed by experienced trail enthusiasts delivering "Cajun hospitality and tough love." Drop bag access is available at the start/finish area, with an additional option to have a second drop bag transported to Aid Station #2, approximately eight miles into the loop. Upon finishing, participants can look forward to the reward of outstanding homemade gumbo, a true taste of local culture. Typical race day conditions in early December bring highs around 64F and lows around 42F, with a 16% chance of precipitation; however, the region's humidity can make the cooler temperatures feel more intense, so runners should be prepared with extra layers. Join the community for this challenging and deeply authentic "Cajun werewolf" adventure, and be part of the grand finale of the Loup Garou Trail Run.
