McClellan Madness

Lace-up for the McClellan Madness, a thrilling timed-loop trail race hosted by Dirty Soles Trail Races on March 7, 2026, in Anniston, Alabama. This unique event challenges runners with either an 8-hour or 4-hour format, inviting participants to see how many loops they can conquer on the scenic Fort McClellan Mountain Bike Trail. For its 5-year anniversary, the 2026 race will reverse tradition, sending runners counter-clockwise on the course.

The course itself is a 4.1-mile single-track loop, known for being runnable with minor elevation changes, approximately 300-315 feet per loop, and some rocky sections that add to the trail experience without being overly technical. Set on the historic grounds of Fort McClellan, a former massive U.S. Army installation, the race offers a touch of historical intrigue (with a playful warning to stay on the designated trail). Typical race day conditions in early March present pleasant running weather, with highs around 65°F and lows near 43°F, and only a 19% chance of precipitation.

Runners can expect a well-supported experience with a full, self-serve aid station conveniently located at the start/finish line at the McClellan Bike Trailhead. This hub will be stocked with essential hydration, snacks, and a much-loved feature: grilled cheese (with vegan options available). Additionally, participants are welcome to set up their own personal aid stations nearby. Achieve a distance challenge—25K in the 4-hour race or a 50K in the 8-hour race—to earn a special award, adding an extra layer of motivation to this challenging and camaraderie-filled event.
