The Mighty Mile - FREE RACE FOR KIDS - Flint offers an exciting and accessible opportunity for young runners aged 5 to 14 to experience the thrill of a timed mile race. Scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Flint, MI, this event is designed to encourage elementary and middle school students to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. This unique race emphasizes participation and personal achievement, providing a supportive and engaging atmosphere for every child.

The 1-mile course is a dynamic mix of track and school grounds, beginning and ending on the Carman Ainsworth Middle School Track, located at 1409 W Maple Ave. Runners will enjoy the speed of the track for the first quarter-mile, then embark on a loop around the school grounds before returning to the track for a strong finish. The terrain is generally flat, making it an ideal setting for young athletes to challenge themselves. To foster a truly encouraging environment, members of the Carman Ainsworth High School Track team will be positioned along the course to cheer on participants, and parents are welcome to run alongside their children.

Beyond the race itself, every young participant receives a T-shirt, a backpack, and a chipped timed accurate mile result. The ultimate reward is a Mighty Mile Finisher Medal upon crossing the finish line, celebrating their accomplishment. Typical race day conditions in early July in Flint see highs around 83°F and lows around 60°F, with a relatively low 13% chance of precipitation, creating pleasant weather for running. As the event focuses on a single mile, it is advisable for participants to bring their own water. This free event is limited to the first 200 participants, requiring online registration to secure a spot for a memorable and healthy start to summer.
