Lace up for an empowering experience at the Montana Women's Run, returning on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in the heart of Billings, Montana. Celebrating its 45th anniversary, this event offers both a 5-mile and a 2-mile distance, inviting women of all ages and abilities to participate in one of the largest women's races in the region. Typical race day conditions in early May are ideal, with highs around 64°F and lows around 40°F, accompanied by only a 10% chance of precipitation, providing a comfortable running environment.
The Montana Women's Run has a rich history, beginning in 1982 when the men of the Yellowstone Rim Runners organized a race to encourage women's participation, which was uncommon at the time. It has since evolved into a powerful community tradition, promoting health and fitness and fostering a remarkably supportive atmosphere where multiple generations often share the course together. The race starts on 2nd Avenue North between N. 24th and N. 25th Streets in downtown Billings. Water stations are strategically placed throughout the course, including locations on 2nd Ave. N. at N. 12th St., 3rd Ave. N. at N. 17th St., 3rd Ave. N. at N. 26th St., and Yellowstone Ave. at about 6th St. W.. For safety reasons, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, pets, and headphones are not permitted on the course.
Beyond the finish line, the impact of the Montana Women's Run resonates deeply within the community. Since 1994, the event has donated over $1.7 million to local women's services, including the Billings YWCA, Billings Clinic Women's Wellness Fund, and scholarships for women's cross-country programs. This commitment to giving back, coupled with an inspiring sense of camaraderie, makes the Montana Women's Run more than just a race; it's a celebration of women's health, fitness, and collective achievement.
