Montvale 5 & 8.4 Milers

Prepare for an exhilarating trail running experience at the Montvale 5 & 8.4 Milers, set to take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the scenic Montvale, VA. This event offers participants a choice between a challenging 5-mile or an invigorating 8.4-mile journey through the picturesque Montvale Park. Racers will navigate a diverse 6.5-mile trail system, renowned for its winding paths through stunning old-growth forests. Typical race day conditions in late February see highs around 53°F and lows around 30°F, with a 12% chance of precipitation, though past events have sometimes brought unexpected snow and chilly winds, adding to the adventure.

The course itself is a dynamic blend of terrain, featuring grassy paths, gravel roads, and asphalt, interspersed with sections of challenging, often muddy, singletrack that can feel like running through "peanut butter". Runners should be prepared for multiple creek crossings, which can be "frigid" and "knee deep" depending on conditions, along with hills and numerous "twists and turns" that one runner likened to a "crazy mouse" roller coaster. The 8.4-miler includes a dedicated water stop at the gravel parking lot, ensuring runners stay hydrated on this demanding route.

Staged conveniently under the pavilion in Montvale Park, located just behind Montvale Elementary School, the race offers a great setting for both competition and camaraderie. Due to limited parking, carpooling is highly encouraged to ensure a smooth start to your race day.
