Get ready to experience the stunning vistas of the Colorado Front Range at the Mountain Ridge Trail Race, returning on April 11, 2026, in scenic Highlands Ranch. Celebrating its 11th year, this beloved event offers an unforgettable trail experience for runners of all levels with distances including a 21M, 13.1M Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. The course, primarily utilizing the beautiful Douglas County East-West Regional Trail system, is renowned for its gently rolling hills and manageable elevation gains, making it approachable for those comfortable with moderate climbing on non-technical terrain. You'll traverse approximately 90% dirt and single-track trails, with a small portion of paved bike path, all while soaking in some of the best panoramic views the region has to offer.

Runners can anticipate diverse challenges across the distances. The 21-mile course features about 2,106 feet of elevation gain, with a notable ascent at mile one before settling into a rhythm of ups and downs, reaching a maximum elevation of 6,412 feet. The Half Marathon climbs approximately 1,345 feet, while the 10K offers around 600 feet of gain and the 5K a manageable 374 feet, making it an ideal introduction to trail running. All longer distances, including the 21M and Half Marathon, utilize a "Y" out-and-back configuration. Typical race day conditions in mid-April include comfortable highs around 60°F and lows around 33°F, with a low chance of precipitation, providing ideal running weather.

The Mountain Ridge Trail Race, organized by the highly regarded Aravaipa Running, is celebrated for its well-marked courses and supportive atmosphere, guaranteeing a memorable journey from start to finish. All races commence and conclude at Mountain Ridge Middle School, offering convenient parking and a dedicated drop bag area. Aid stations are strategically placed along the longer courses—four for the 21 Miler, three for the Half Marathon, and two for the 10K—though this is a cupless event, so participants should bring their own hydration vessels. As a unique challenge, winners of the 21-mile race are even awarded a custom-branded cast iron skillet as part of the Jax Cast Iron Challenge.
