The Mountaineer Rumble, set for November 7, 2026, at Kings Mountain State Park in Clover, SC, offers a formidable challenge for trail runners across four distances: the 100 Miler, 100K, 50K, and a 10 Mile option. This highly-regarded event is known for its well-organized execution and a strong sense of community, drawing runners to its scenic trails during ideal late-fall conditions, with typical race day highs around 66°F and lows near 36°F, and a low 13% chance of precipitation.
The course is designed around a roughly ten-mile loop that predominantly follows the CCC Multi-Use Trail (Orange Blaze), featuring about 650 feet of elevation gain per loop. Runners tackling the 50K will complete three loops plus a half-mile out-and-back, 100K participants will navigate six loops with a one-mile out-and-back, and 100 Miler athletes will push through ten full loops. The trails are described as beautiful yet tough, offering a varied landscape of rolling hills, creeks, and remnants of the Civilian Conservation Camp, all set amidst a picturesque backdrop of hardwoods and pines. Aid is plentiful, with two fully stocked stations on each loop and an indoor start/finish aid station that also provides drop-bag storage.
What truly sets the Mountaineer Rumble apart is its dedication to runner experience, consistently praised for its exceptionally well-marked course and the enthusiastic, supportive volunteers. Ultra-distance entrants (50K, 100K, 100 Miler) are even offered cabin lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, alongside a Friday night pasta dinner and Saturday morning breakfast, fostering an immersive race weekend experience. Additionally, 100 Miler finishers earn a custom buckle, and those who complete all three ultra distances across different years receive a special custom handmade award, adding a unique incentive to this challenging yet rewarding race.
