Mt. Baldhead Challenge

Prepare for an unparalleled challenge at the Mt. Baldhead Challenge, set to conquer the scenic landscape of Saugatuck, Michigan, on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This esteemed event, celebrating 25 years, is renowned as the "Midwest's Ultimate Multi-Terrain Race" and offers two demanding distances: a 13.1-mile Half Marathon and a "slightly over 10K" course, approximately 7 miles. Runners embarking on this unique adventure can expect to traverse an incredible mix of rugged woodland trails, soft sandy dunes, and paved streets, all while being treated to stunning waterfront vistas of Lake Michigan.

Both distances promise a physically and mentally testing journey, highlighted by the ascent of the iconic Mt. Baldhead, which features a formidable 302 steps. The Half Marathon boasts approximately 1050 feet of cumulative elevation gain, with around 38% of the course on trails and 50% offering water views, while the 10K+ route includes about 750 feet of elevation, with roughly 50% trails and 50% water views. The race kicks off at Oval Beach and culminates at Coghlin Park in downtown Saugatuck, providing a vibrant finish line atmosphere. Well-stocked hydration stations are strategically placed throughout the course, never more than 1.5 miles apart, offering water and Gatorade to keep you fueled.
