New River Rush Adventure Race

Prepare for an unparalleled endurance challenge at the New River Rush Adventure Race, set to unfold on May 16, 2026, in the stunning New River Gorge National Park, Oak Hill, WV. This 15-hour adventure race, available for solo participants or teams of two, three, or four, promises a world-class journey through one of America's newest national parks. Participants can expect a dynamic course combining approximately 1.5-3 hours of professionally guided whitewater rafting through the New River's multiple rapids, around 30 miles of mountain biking across varied single-track, double-track, gravel, and paved terrain, and 5-15 miles of rugged trekking, including off-trail navigation with significant elevation changes. Along the way, racers will traverse scenic overlooks, historical landmarks, and even abandoned coal mines, making for an incredibly immersive experience.

Now in its third year with a redesigned course for 2026, the New River Rush is a USARA-sanctioned event, offering points towards national rankings. While elite teams will find the course adventurous and challenging, its design incorporates short-course options, ensuring all ability levels can enjoy the breathtaking scenery and push their limits toward the finish line at ACE Adventure Resort. Typical race day conditions in mid-May bring highs around 72F and lows around 52F, with a 22% chance of precipitation, creating a comfortable yet potentially invigorating environment for this multi-sport endeavor.

Beyond the race itself, the New River Rush offers a unique experience with convenient logistics for racers. Transition Areas (TAs) will be available for resupply, meaning participants won't need to carry extensive gear, and a bike drop location will be designated. After crossing the finish line, racers will be treated to hot showers, changing rooms, and a well-deserved post-race meal at The Lost Paddle. To enhance the adventure, a free rappel clinic is offered the Friday before the race, and a whitewater kayak clinic is available on Sunday, providing opportunities to hone skills amidst the camaraderie of fellow adventurers.
