About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the stunning landscapes of the Cleveland National Forest at the PCT 50, a challenging 50-mile ultramarathon set for June 6, 2026. This historic out-and-back course, celebrating its 44th running, traces a scenic stretch of the iconic Pacific Crest Trail in east San Diego County, California. Runners will navigate predominantly single-track trails featuring numerous climbs and rocky sections, ascending from an approximate starting elevation of 3,000 feet to reach highs of 6,000 feet in the Laguna Mountains, accumulating over 7,500 feet of elevation gain. The changing eco-cultures and spectacular vistas of the Anza-Borrego Desert promise breathtaking views, though runners are advised to stop to admire them given the technical terrain.

The PCT 50 is renowned for its demanding yet rewarding experience. Fully stocked aid stations, positioned approximately every 5-7 miles, will keep runners fueled with ultra essentials and Tailwind. Key aid stations include Fred Canyon, Dale's Kitchen, Per's Cabin, and Penny Pines, where drop bags are available and crews are permitted access. Typical race day conditions in early June can see highs around 84°F and lows near 61°F, with a 17% chance of precipitation; runners should be prepared for warmth and appreciate the ice water available at aid stations. Enthusiastic volunteers contribute to the race's encouraging atmosphere, making the rigorous course more manageable.

Starting just outside Boulder Oaks campground, the PCT 50 culminates in a lively finish line celebration. Runners consistently praise the well-organized event, the substantial finisher medals, and the camaraderie. Beyond the physical test, the opportunity to traverse a segment of the legendary Pacific Crest Trail amidst such diverse and beautiful scenery truly sets this ultramarathon apart as San Diego's most beautiful 50-mile running event.
