This inspiring event, hosted by Rocky Point VFW Post 6249, offers participants the choice of a 3.1-mile run or a 2-mile walk, all while honoring an Iraq War hero, PFC Joseph P. Dwyer, and supporting the vital Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Project. This program provides crucial peer-to-peer support for veterans grappling with PTSD and TBI, a cause that has demonstrated tremendous value in helping veterans transition and reintegrate into civilian life.

The course promises a engaging journey, starting and finishing at Rocky Point High School. Runners and walkers will wind through the stunning local pine barrens, encountering a mix of trails, hills, and even a section on the track. The route includes a stretch south on Rocky Point Road before turning into the serene pine barrens, offering both challenge and natural beauty. Participants can look forward to a supportive community atmosphere, with age group medals for 5K runners, awards for the top three men and women in the walk-only category, and refreshing amenities awaiting at the finish line. The first 300 registrants are also guaranteed a commemorative t-shirt. Typical race day conditions in late May offer comfortable highs around 72F and lows around 55F, with a minimal 14% chance of precipitation, creating ideal conditions for a memorable event.
