About This Race

Prepare for an exhilarating journey into the heart of Western North Carolina at the Pisgah 12 Hour Adventure Race on September 19, 2026. Set within the breathtaking Lake James State Park, nestled at the edge of the renowned Linville Gorge area in Nebo, NC, this event promises an unforgettable experience of multi-sport endurance and strategic navigation. Now in its seventh year at this spectacular state park, the race challenges teams of one to four to traverse a diverse course that blends bushwhacking orienteering, single-track and road mountain biking, and scenic paddling across Lake James.

Racers will embark on a 12-hour quest to collect punches from as many unmanned checkpoints scattered throughout the wilderness as possible, with the team accumulating the most points in the least amount of time claiming victory. The "choose your own adventure" style, featuring optional checkpoints, ensures an engaging challenge for adventurers of all skill levels. Typical race day conditions in mid-September include highs around 80°F and lows near 58°F, with a modest 17% chance of precipitation, creating ideal conditions for a full day of outdoor exploration.

While aid stations are provided at transition areas, participants are responsible for carrying their own food and fluids to last the duration of the race. This event marks the thrilling finale of the organizer's race series, inviting participants to embrace camaraderie, competition, and post-race festivities. The start and finish are conveniently located at Lake James State Park, Paddy Creek Area (7321 NC-126, Nebo, NC), with park gates opening at 6:30 AM before the 9:00 AM EDT race start.
