Prospector's 50k | 30k

Runners will be captivated by majestic mountain vistas and a rich historical journey, passing by old homesteads, mining equipment, and winding spur roads that tell tales of a bygone era.

The 50k course, starting in Silver Gate and finishing in Cooke City, promises a significant test of endurance with an approximate 5,500 feet of elevation gain, reaching elevations nearing 10,000 feet. The majority of the route traverses Forest Service access roads, many of which were original mining thoroughfares, with the 50k also featuring an out-and-back section on challenging single-track trail heading toward Lake Abundance. The 30k distance follows much of the same scenic and rugged path. Aid stations along the course are well-stocked with electrolyte mixes, water, soda, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks, alongside limited medical supplies, ensuring runners are supported on their journey. Be prepared for dynamic mountain conditions, as typical race day weather shows highs around 75°F and lows around 51°F, with a 9% chance of precipitation, though participants should be ready for quick changes, including potential snow at higher elevations.

The Prospector's races are limited to 100 racers per event, fostering an intimate yet challenging atmosphere that is "not for the faint of heart." Mandatory gear includes bear spray (available to borrow), sufficient water, calories, and a rain/wind layer, underscoring the remote and wild nature of the course.
