Prepare for an out-of-this-world running experience at the 5th Annual Race to Space, taking off on May 9, 2026, in McMinnville, Oregon. This uniquely themed event coincides with McMinnville's famed UFO Festival, encouraging runners to embrace the cosmic spirit and even don their best "out of this world" costumes. Whether you're aiming for an epic endurance challenge or a more relaxed adventure, Race to Space offers a diverse range of timed distances including 12-hour (Abduction Adventure), 8-hour (Journey to Pluto), 6-hour (Solar Shuffle), 3-hour (Mission to Mars), and 1-hour (Moon Shot) options, plus a 6-mile Space Sprint relay. For an added twist, try the "Bingo Run," where each completed lap earns you a number draw to fill your bib's bingo card, introducing an element of chance to your race strategy.
The race unfolds on an approximately 1.5-mile loop course along the Linfield University Wellness Trail. This mostly dirt and bark dust trail is not overly technical, featuring only a few tree roots, making it accessible for a variety of runners. Typical race day conditions in early May see highs around 68°F and lows around 44°F, with a low 8% chance of precipitation, though Oregon weather can be unpredictable. Road shoes are generally recommended for dry conditions, while trail shoes might be preferable if the course is wet. The start, finish, and main aid station are conveniently located together off SE Lever Street on Wildcat Circle, with easy vehicle access. The aid station is well-stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks, and runners are encouraged to bring their own personal food and reusable cups. Ample space is available along the course for personal aid setups.
What truly sets Race to Space apart is its welcoming, loop-course format, providing runners the flexibility to manage their race at their own pace and easily access support whenever needed. Moreover, your participation contributes to a great cause, as all profits from the event benefit the Yamhill Community Action Partnership's local food bank in McMinnville. Embark on your own stellar journey and be a part of this community-focused, fun-filled running event!
