About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable trail running adventure at the Ridge to Rails 50k, Half, & 10k, set to unfold on June 6, 2026, in the scenic emerging town of Old Fort, NC. This event, expertly organized by Tanawha Adventures, offers a diverse array of distances to challenge every runner, from seasoned ultra-marathoners to those new to the trails. You'll experience the stunning beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, traversing a captivating mix of classic and brand-new trails within the Old Fort Gateway Trail System.

The courses are designed to showcase the region's breathtaking vistas and varied terrain. The challenging 50K boasts approximately 5,700 feet of elevation gain and loss, sending runners bombing down iconic trails like Star Gap, Bernard Mountain, and Kitsuma. While the climbs are gradual, the downhills are notably steep and fast, offering a thrilling experience for those who excel at descents. For a unique journey, the Half Marathon offers a super-fun net downhill, point-to-point race from the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, featuring a significant loss of around 2,600 feet over 13 miles, with less than half the gain. Runners will pass through the picturesque Camp Grier, admiring a tranquil lake with mountains towering around them. Meanwhile, the 10K provides a "Pisgah easy" yet engaging figure-8 loop through the smooth, gradually graded Old Fort Gateway Trails, making it an excellent option for beginners or those seeking a faster trail experience with around 750 feet of elevation change.

Aid stations are a highlight, described by past participants as well-stocked with everything from standard fare to cola, pickle juice, and Snickers bars, all supported by incredibly helpful and friendly volunteers. The event begins and ends at Camp Grier, providing a central hub for parking and race day activities, though half marathoners will take a shuttle to their start. Typical race day conditions in early June include highs around 80F and lows near 59F, with a 19% chance of precipitation, creating a true mountain running atmosphere. Prepare for a memorable day on trails that blend smooth, runnable sections with more technical stretches, ensuring a rewarding challenge amidst spectacular scenery.
