Lace up your running shoes for the scenic Rock the Light 5K Run/Walk & 10-Miler, set to take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in the charming lakeside village of Northport, Michigan. This beloved event kicks off and concludes at the iconic Grand Traverse Lighthouse Gift Shop within the picturesque Leelanau State Park, offering runners and walkers a truly unique and memorable experience. Participants can choose between a challenging 10-mile course or a gentler 5K run/walk, both promising stunning vistas of the surrounding natural beauty.
The 5K route is an out-and-back, largely flat course along N. Purkiss Road, welcoming runners, walkers, strollers, and even dogs to enjoy the refreshing early summer air. For those tackling the 10-Miler, the out-and-back journey extends towards Woolsey Airport, providing a more expansive tour of the area. Typical race day conditions in early June boast comfortable highs around 69°F and lows around 50°F, with only a 14% chance of precipitation, creating ideal weather for a fantastic race. The 10-miler is well-supported with four aid stations spaced approximately every 2.5 miles, while the 5K features one aid station at its turnaround point, in addition to aid at the finish line for both distances.
Beyond the breathtaking scenery, the Rock the Light race stands out for its fantastic runner perks. All finishers will proudly receive a medal, enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast to refuel, and gain admission to explore the historic Grand Traverse Lighthouse. The event is chip-timed, and competitive spirits can vie for cash prizes awarded to the top male and female finishers, along with age group awards for the top three in each five-year category. As a proud inclusion in the Traverse City Track Club's Grand Prix Series, this race consistently delivers an engaging atmosphere for all participants, combining a well-organized event with the allure of Michigan's stunning Leelanau Peninsula.
