Prepare for an unforgettable running experience at the Rocky Neck Runfest, set for Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the scenic Rocky Neck State Park, Niantic, CT. This unique event, marking its final year, offers a distinctive 30K distance that challenges runners with an alternating course of both paved roads and technical trails. Participants will navigate six 5K rotations, experiencing the diverse beauty of the Connecticut shoreline.
The 30K course features a dynamic blend of terrain. The road sections follow a mostly flat, counterclockwise loop through the park's paved roads and campground, offering picturesque views of the Bride Brook salt marsh. Transitioning to the trails, runners will encounter "some hills," single-track paths, and the typical New England challenges of roots and rocks, especially with the possibility of muddy conditions in early spring. Expect stunning coastal vistas of Long Island Sound, the historic Ellie Mitchell Pavilion, and the Four Mile River tidal area throughout your journey. Aid stations with water and Nuun are strategically placed at mile 1.5 on both road and trail loops, with a central exchange zone serving as a refueling hub. Typical race day conditions in April include highs around 58°F and lows around 40°F, with a 12% chance of precipitation, making for ideal running weather.
The Rocky Neck Runfest promises a high-energy atmosphere and an incredible sense of camaraderie, culminating in a memorable beachfront finish. All participants receive a technical shirt and a custom-designed finisher medal to commemorate their accomplishment. The celebration continues with a lively post-race party featuring live music and a satisfying "hot bRUNch" from Flanders Fish Market. The event kicks off with the 30K start at 8:00 AM, and runners are encouraged to arrive before 7:45 AM due to temporary park road closures.
