Embark on an unforgettable journey through the mountains of East San Diego County with the San Diego 100, a premier 100-mile ultra-marathon taking place on May 1-2, 2026. Starting and finishing at the picturesque Lake Cuyamaca Recreation Area, just southwest of Julian, runners will navigate a demanding loop course featuring approximately 15,400 feet of climbing and an equal amount of descent. This notoriously challenging and technical event is predominantly (90%) single-track mountain trail, traversing five distinct recreational areas including sections of the iconic Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Noble Canyon, Cuyamaca and Anza Borrego State Parks, and Mt. Laguna Recreational Area. Prepare for breathtaking scenery, from expansive golden-hour-soaked meadows to panoramic views overlooking the Anza Borrego desert, as you push your limits across varied terrain that is both beautiful and relentless.

The San Diego 100 has earned its reputation as a "people's race," celebrated for its grassroots spirit and unwavering dedication to the runner experience. Veteran ultrarunners praise the exceptionally well-marked course and the legion of amazing, supportive volunteers who staff 16 aid stations, 8 of which offer drop bag access. These stations are meticulously stocked with essentials like water, electrolyte drinks, GU energy, fruit, salty snacks, sandwiches, and hot options at night, ensuring runners are well-supported throughout their 32-hour journey. Typical race day conditions in early May can see highs around 65°F and lows around 45°F, though runners should be prepared for potential extremes, including hot, exposed sections during the day and chilly, windy nights, especially at higher elevations.

Beyond the challenging course, the San Diego 100 offers unique elements that set it apart. It serves as a qualifying race for the prestigious Western States 100, and a "Solo Division" is available for those who prefer to tackle the course without a crew. The race also champions community spirit through initiatives like the Scotty Mills Scholarships for those who give back to their community, and offers an hour early start for runners over 60, alongside discounts for active military and first responders. With its stunning vistas, deceptively difficult trails, and a highly organized and supportive race community, the San Diego 100 promises a personally meaningful and deeply rewarding accomplishment for every finisher.
