Prepare to push your limits at the Schuetzen NEIN! Hour Endurance Run, a unique and challenging event returning to Davenport, IA, on June 20, 2026. Hosted by the Quad Cities Trail & Ultra Runners and Sun Trail Running, this "old school" endurance race invites participants to complete as many miles as possible within a 9-hour time limit, offering both solo and "Mannschaft (Team) Division" relay options. It's an ideal opportunity for runners to attempt their first trail half, full, or even ultra marathon, with the ultimate goal of earning the coveted Schuetzen Spanker for 50k+ solo or 50mi+ relay efforts.
The course itself is a demanding yet beautiful 0.85-mile trail loop set within a historic German site, featuring 125-150 feet of elevation gain per loop. Runners will navigate mostly dirt and chipped rock single track, interspersed with challenging stair sections and grassy paths. Reviews from previous years highlight the course's deceptive difficulty, with many runners attesting that "Schuetzen NEIN! will bring you to your knees" and that it "will test you mentally, physically and leave you questioning your sanity". Typical race day conditions in June see highs around 83°F and lows around 63°F, with a 19% chance of precipitation, so be prepared for varied weather.
The race hub, located at the Jens Lorenzen Pavilion, provides ample parking and bathroom facilities, along with "abundant aid" at the start/finish, including hot food and cold beverages to keep you fueled. More than just a race, the Schuetzen NEIN! Hour fosters a supportive atmosphere, known for "friendly runners" and organizers who provide "constant kicks in the ass to get back out for 'just one more loop'". This event not only offers a profound personal challenge but also contributes to the upkeep of the privately managed Schuetzen Park through guaranteed donations.
