Lace up your running shoes for the Shriners 5K, a vibrant and purposeful event taking place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in the picturesque East Side Fairmont, WV. This 5K race, also offering a 1-mile walk and a virtual option, is a proud part of the Marion County Race Series and is dedicated to supporting the vital work of the Osiris Shriners and Shriners Children's. Typical race day conditions in early October offer ideal running weather, with highs around 74F and lows near 51F, accompanied by a low 13% chance of precipitation.
The Shriners 5K promises a course that is both fast and challenging, designed to give participants a great workout. Starting at the MCPARC Meredith Tunnel trailhead, the route quickly introduces an approximately 80-foot elevation gain along Morgantown Avenue within the first half mile. Runners will then navigate turns onto Sunset Boulevard, Speedway Avenue, East Park Avenue, and Indiana Avenue, before a "breezy 80-foot elevation decline" back to the finish line on Morgantown Avenue. To keep you energized, a water stop will be available around mile 2. The start and finish area, along with registration and parking, is conveniently located near the MCPARC Meredith Tunnel trailhead, with 1801 Morgantown Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554, serving as the navigation point.
Beyond the course, the Shriners 5K offers a rewarding experience for all. All participants will receive a commemorative medal, and those who register early by September 15th will also snag a stylish event tee shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three participants 15 and under. Join this community-focused event to challenge yourself, enjoy the scenic streets of Fairmont, and contribute to a noble cause.
