About This Race

Embark on an unforgettable trail running adventure at the Silver State, taking place on May 16, 2026, in Reno, Nevada. This event, a staple for endurance enthusiasts, offers challenging distances of 50 miles, 50 kilometers, and a scenic half marathon, all starting and finishing at Rancho San Rafael Park in northwest Reno, near the Great Basin Adventure area. Celebrating its 41st year for the ultra distances and 18th for the half marathon, the Silver State boasts a rich history as one of the oldest and most challenging trail runs on the West Coast, maintaining a cherished "old-school" ultra running vibe and a strong sense of community.

The courses are run entirely on dirt trails and dirt roads, featuring a wide variety of terrain, including dirt, rock, and pine trees, with ample climbing and descending. Runners will experience exquisite views of the Sierra Nevada and the Truckee Meadows as they navigate significant elevation changes. The 50K course climbs and descends 6,100 feet, while the 50-mile journey features an impressive 9,500 feet of ascent and descent, reaching a high elevation of 8,266 feet. The 50-mile race includes the distinctive "Jimmy's Loop," a 7.1-mile section with approximately 1,800 feet of climbing. The half marathon also delivers 13.1 miles of single track with considerable climbing and descending, offering memorable Western scenery. These challenging routes are renowned as excellent training grounds for the Western States 100-miler and the Tahoe Rim Trail 100-miler.

Aid stations, numbering seven for the 50K and nine for the 50M, are known for being well-stocked with friendly and supportive volunteers. Expect a variety of sustenance, including water, electrolytes, sodas, potatoes, quesadillas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit, and an array of sweet and salty treats. Drop bag access is available for ultra-runners at key locations like Peavine Summit. Typical race day conditions in mid-May present comfortable highs around 72°F and lows around 46°F, with a low 3% chance of precipitation, providing ideal weather for tackling the trails of Peavine Mountain. Finishers can look forward to post-race food and drink at Rancho San Rafael Park, celebrating their accomplishments in true Silver State fashion.
