About This Race

Embrace the unique thrill of desert trail running under the stars at the Sinister Night Runs on April 25, 2026, in Queen Creek, Arizona. As the inaugural event in the popular Insomniac Night Trail Run Series, this race invites runners of all abilities to "Carpe Noctem"—seize the night! Choose your challenge from distances including 54K, 27K, 18K, 9K, and 6K, each offering an unforgettable experience through the Sonoran Desert.

The course, primarily a 9-kilometer loop (except for the 6K route), winds through the scenic San Tan, Hedgehog, and Littleleaf Trails within San Tan Mountain Regional Park. Runners will encounter a mix of smooth, runnable trails complemented by rolling hills and occasional rocks, providing an engaging yet accessible trail experience. You'll journey past majestic saguaro cacti, with the desert illuminated by moonlight and headlamps. While the 54K ultra boasts over 3,179 feet of elevation gain, the course is designed to be rolling and enjoyable for all participants. Aid stations, including a well-stocked main hub at the start/finish, offer water, ice, electrolyte drinks, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks, including hot food options like quesadillas and grilled cheese, ensuring runners are well-supported throughout the night. Crews and personal drop bags are also welcomed at the start/finish area for easy access.

Typical race day conditions in late April see comfortable evening lows around 57°F, although highs can reach 88°F before sunset, with virtually no chance of precipitation. This makes the night start a welcome feature, allowing runners to avoid the peak daytime heat. Known for its excellent organization, the Sinister Night Runs by Aravaipa Running is celebrated as a perfect beginner night trail race, yet offers a substantial challenge for seasoned ultrarunners across multiple loops. Don't miss the opportunity to join this magical nocturnal adventure and experience the desert trails like never before.
