Skunk Hollow Sneaker Chase

Lace up your trail shoes for the Skunk Hollow Sneaker Chase, returning to Casper, WY, on July 18, 2026. This grassroots event invites runners to experience the challenge and beauty of Casper Mountain, offering an 8-mile trail run or the ultimate test of endurance in Wyoming's first true Backyard Ultra. Participants in the 8-mile option will complete two laps of the scenic course, while Backyard Ultra participants tackle the same loop hourly until only one runner remains. Typical race day conditions in mid-July bring highs around 91°F and lows near 55°F, with a minimal 4% chance of precipitation.

The race unfolds on a mountainous, 99% singletrack course, winding through forested cross-country ski trails on Casper Mountain. Runners will navigate elevations ranging from 7,800 to 8,100 feet, with each roughly 4.15-mile lap gaining about 450 feet. Known for its fun yet challenging character, the course promises breathtaking views and an experience that will push perceived limits. For 2026, an even-numbered year, the course will be run in a clockwise direction.

Starting and finishing at the Casper Mountain Trails Center, the Skunk Hollow Sneaker Chase fosters a laid-back feel and genuine camaraderie among participants. Aid for runners is concentrated at the start/finish area, providing essential support. After conquering the trails, all 8-mile finishers receive awards and can enjoy provided food and beverages. Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs and noisemakers to cheer on runners, adding to the vibrant race atmosphere.
