This celebrated event offers both a 10K and 5K distance, inviting runners of all levels to kick off summer with a vibrant community experience. As part of the esteemed Cumberland Valley Race Series, the Solstice 5k/10k promises a fantastic atmosphere as hundreds gather to enjoy the warm glow of the setting sun.

The course is an out-and-back journey along the scenic Cumberland Valley Rail-Trail, known for its smooth, crushed stone surface that winds through beautiful farmland. This generally flat terrain provides an excellent opportunity for personal bests or a comfortable evening stroll. The race starts and finishes at the Shippensburg Township Park trailhead of the Cumberland Valley Rail-Trail, benefiting the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council, a non-profit dedicated to developing multi-use trails.

The 5k and 10k races are scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM, offering a unique opportunity to run as daylight extends into the evening. Typical race day conditions for late June in Shippensburg include highs around 85°F and lows around 61°F, with an 18% chance of precipitation. Participants can look forward to custom-made pottery awards for the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as masters and age group awards.
