The Sonoma Coast Trail Runs, originally slated for May 30, 2026, in Occidental, CA, have unfortunately been canceled for the 2026 season due to increased permitting fees and newly imposed trail usage limitations. While this beloved event by Skybreaker Racing will not take place as planned, its reputation for challenging trails and breathtaking scenery remains.

Historically, this event has offered a range of distances including a 50K, Marathon, 30K, and Half Marathon, attracting runners to the stunning landscapes of Sonoma Coast State Park. The courses are known for traversing beautiful ridgelines with expansive ocean vistas, summiting Red Hill, and winding through serene redwood groves and fern-filled canyons, with the start and finish lines typically located at Pomo Canyon Environmental Camp. Runners could expect significant elevation gains, with the 50K course, for instance, featuring around 7,000 feet of climbing. Typical race day conditions for late May in this area would see highs around 60°F and lows around 49°F, with a minimal 3% chance of precipitation.

Aid stations are generally well-stocked with water, electrolytes, snacks, and energy gels, and the event promotes environmental sustainability by being cupless, encouraging runners to bring their own hydration systems. While the 2026 race is off, Skybreaker Racing has expressed hopes to secure permits for a future event, potentially in a new location like Monte Rio Redwoods in 2027, to continue offering this unique Northern California trail running experience.
