Prepare to close out your summer with a memorable stride at the Summer Sendoff 5K & 1 Mile, returning for its 4th annual event on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in the beautiful setting of Chester Springs, PA. This beloved family-friendly event offers both a challenging 5K run and an enjoyable 1 Mile walk, making it perfect for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Typical race day conditions in mid-August feature highs around 83°F and lows around 63°F, with a 17% chance of precipitation, providing a warm but potentially refreshing atmosphere for your finish.
The 5K route, known as the "Byers Loop" course, presents a dynamic experience with an elevation gain of 201 feet over 3.10 miles, a challenge that has been conquered by both aspiring young runners and local elites alike. Both races begin and end at Pickering Valley Elementary School and Eagle Crossroads Park, serving as the central hub for all the festivities. Participants can stay refreshed with a water station conveniently located at the start/finish area, alongside a tent for comfort and shade.
Beyond the race itself, the Summer Sendoff cultivates a vibrant community atmosphere. Every registered participant receives a stylish Summer Sendoff T-shirt, and competitive runners have the chance to win cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers, plus medals for the top three in each age group (9 & under to 70+). The event also features engaging music, exciting raffle baskets, bib number prizes, and games along the 1 Mile Walk route. Notably, a portion of every registration directly benefits Best Buddies, a non-profit dedicated to fostering inclusivity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with over $2,000 raised in previous years.
