Summer Sendoff 5K

Get ready to mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Summer Sendoff 5K and 1 Mile Walk, taking place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in the scenic Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. This family-friendly event kicks off from Pickering Valley Elementary School and Eagle Crossroads Park, inviting runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to participate. Whether you're aiming for a personal best on the challenging 5K "Byers Loop" course, known to be tackled by both young talents and local elites, or enjoying a leisurely 1 Mile Walk with engaging games along the route, there's an experience for everyone. The 5K course features approximately 201 feet of elevation gain across its 3.10-mile distance, winding through the picturesque roads of Chester Springs.

Participants can expect a vibrant atmosphere with a water station and tent at the start/finish area, complete with music to keep spirits high and ensure hydration. Every registered runner and walker receives a stylish Summer Sendoff T-shirt, and competitive runners have a chance to earn cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers, plus medals for the top three in each age group, ranging from 9 & under to 70+. Beyond the race, enjoy amazing raffle baskets and bib number prizes, all contributing to a strong sense of community.

The Summer Sendoff is more than just a race; it's an event with a purpose, born from a 2022 Graduation Service Project by Downingtown East and STEM Academy cross country and track and field athletes. A portion of every registration directly benefits Best Buddies, a non-profit dedicated to fostering inclusivity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Typical race day conditions in mid-August feature highs around 83°F and lows around 63°F, with a 17% chance of precipitation, making for a warm yet potentially refreshing summer evening run.
