Summit Run 5K

Prepare for an unforgettable challenge at the Summit Run 5K, set for Sunday, September 20, 2026, in scenic Hadley, MA. Renowned as one of the most challenging, beautiful, and enjoyable 5Ks in the Pioneer Valley, this race culminates with breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Mt. Holyoke, high above the Connecticut River. The course, redesigned for 2025 to enhance its scenic beauty, begins with a short 0.4-mile uphill "warm-up" on Mountain Road before a gentle downhill stretch through Hockanum Village, rich with historic homes. Runners will then turn around and head back up Old Mountain Road, enjoying picturesque scenery, before tackling the defining feature of this race: a challenging final mile that climbs 800 feet on a paved road to the finish line atop Mt. Holyoke at the historic Summit House.

Typical race day conditions in late September offer ideal running weather, with highs around 74F and lows around 50F, and only a 14% chance of precipitation. A water stop is available around the halfway point, with refreshments and free race photos awaiting you at the summit finish area. This unique 5K, part of the SMAC Race Series and welcoming runners and walkers of all levels, is often called the "Valley's own mini-Mount Washington race" due to its significant elevation gain. Custom tech t-shirts are typically provided for early registrants, and age group winners, along with overall male and female champions, are awarded delicious Atkins Apple Pies. A portion of the race proceeds also supports the Kestrel Land Trust, contributing to local land conservation. After conquering the course, runners will enjoy the magnificent views before walking down to the parking area.
