Runners can choose between a challenging 7.3-mile course and a spirited 3.3-mile option, both offering an exhilarating experience through the scenic trails of Little Mulberry Park. The 7.3-mile race kicks off at 8:00 PM EDT, featuring roughly 850 feet of vertical gain and a halfway aid station with bathrooms at the 4.4-mile mark. The 3.3-mile race starts at 8:30 PM EDT, presenting a more moderate 240 feet of vertical gain as it crosses one of Gwinnett County's highest points.

This event, organized by Team Summit, is known for its fast and challenging routes. Typical race day conditions in late July see highs around 88F and lows around 70F, with a 15% chance of precipitation, creating a warm, but potentially refreshing, evening run. The Summit Sundown is the summer companion to the December Summit Showdown, forming part of the "Mulberry Madness" trail race series, with discounts available for those who register for both.
