Prepare for a frosty challenge at The 2026 Big Cross Frozen Tundra, set to take place on January 31, 2026, in Pasco, WA. This wintertime event offers runners two distances: a 2.5 Mile Run/Walk and a 5 Mile Run, with the longer distance completing two circuits of the course. Starting at 9:30 AM PST, participants will navigate the Big Cross Country Course, known for its dynamic woodchip, dirt, and gravel trails. The course is designed to test runners with four significant hill climbs and descents, interspersed with smaller undulations and flat sections, all set within scenic shrub steppe terrain. Typical race day conditions in late January include highs around 44°F and lows around 30°F, with only a 4% chance of precipitation, creating a true "frozen tundra" atmosphere.
The Big Cross Frozen Tundra prides itself on fostering camaraderie, particularly inviting current and former Tri-Cities area high school cross country and track team members to represent their schools and even form unique teams. All participants will receive a commemorative race logo runner's belt, and warming stations with patio-style heaters will be available to help runners brave the winter chill. Upon crossing the finish line, athletes can enjoy refreshments and drinks. Finisher ribbons are awarded to the top 10 male and female participants in each race, recognizing strong performances on this challenging winter course. Packet pickup and race bibs will be available at the starting line approximately 60 minutes before the race.
