About This Race

Prepare for an unforgettable challenge at The 24 Hour Lions Roar, a premier ultrarunning event set in the picturesque Gans Creek Recreation Area in Columbia, Missouri, on April 17-18, 2026. This race offers a unique blend of endurance and community across multiple distances, including 24-hour individual and Tag Team Championship events, alongside 12-hour, 6-hour, and a fun 1-Hour Cub Run for younger participants. Runners will tackle a well-groomed, 2.5-mile loop course that incorporates the prestigious D1 NCAA Cross Country Championship Course and adjacent soccer fields, providing a runner-friendly route with just enough elevation to keep things interesting through day and night. Adding to the strategic fun, the loop's direction is reversed every six hours.

The 24 Hour Lions Roar is renowned for its positive, high-energy atmosphere, fostering a blend of competition and community where solo runners and relay teams encourage each other lap after lap. Friends and family can easily spectate and support from the course loop and start/finish area, making for an engaging experience for everyone involved. Typical race day conditions in mid-April offer comfortable highs around 68°F and lows around 46°F, with a modest 19% chance of precipitation. The main aid station, located at the start/finish line, is well-stocked with water, Tailwind, and other ultra-friendly foods to keep you fueled. Please note, this is a cupless event, so runners are encouraged to bring their own reusable hydration vessels.

Beyond the personal challenge, participating in The 24 Hour Lions Roar supports a worthy cause: a portion of all proceeds benefits Pascale's Pals, a local volunteer organization dedicated to assisting children and families at the Children's Hospital in Columbia, MO. Achieve mileage milestones and earn custom belt buckles for completing 100 miles, commemorative t-shirts for 100K, 50 miles, or 50K, and for the competitive, custom championship belts await the winning 24 Hour Tag Teams. This event is an ideal opportunity to push your limits, enjoy a supportive environment, and contribute to a meaningful cause.
