About This Race

Get ready to experience the Lowcountry's natural beauty and the thrill of trail running at The Dirt Dash, returning to Johns Island, SC, on September 12, 2026. Hosted at the scenic Johns Island County Park, this event, now under the management of Palmetto Ultras, invites runners to embark on an adventure through lush landscapes, winding trails, and breathtaking scenery, with routes traversing 100% un-paved paths. Choose your challenge from a 5K (one 3.3-mile loop), 10K (two loops), Half Marathon (four loops), or the full Marathon (eight loops), all designed to test participants with a mix of terrains including well-groomed paths, open meadows, wooded sections, and some grassy and single/double track trails. Runners will find themselves surrounded by ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss, along with views of pine forests and marshes teeming with wildlife, offering a truly unforgettable experience.

The looped course design is a unique advantage, bringing you back to the fully stocked aid station at the start/finish line every 3.3 miles, where you can refuel with snacks, water, and electrolyte drinks, or access your drop bag. Runners should note that The Dirt Dash is a cupless event, requiring participants to bring their own hydration vessel. Typical race day conditions in September see highs around 87F and lows around 70F, with a 16% chance of precipitation, making for a warm but potentially refreshing challenge. Beyond the trails, the race fosters a strong community atmosphere, offering breakfast items in the morning and grilling out hot dogs and hamburgers around noon for runners and volunteers. All finishers proudly receive a medal, and those registering by the specified deadline will get a custom BOCO Gear hat as part of their swag. Camping options are also available on-site for those wishing to immerse themselves fully in the pre-race excitement.
