Lace up your running shoes and leash up your furry friends for The Fast & The Furriest®, celebrating its 20th anniversary on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Rochester, NY! This beloved community event offers a fantastic day of fitness and fun for all ages and abilities, along with a vibrant pet festival. Runners can choose from scenic 10K (6.2M) and 5K (3.1M) races, while younger participants can enjoy the 1K Kids Race, and dog owners can join the popular 1-mile Dog Walk. Virtual options are also available for those who can't make it in person.
The courses, starting and finishing at Brown Square Park (across from Rochester Animal Services), guide participants through the picturesque City of Rochester, featuring a scenic route along the Genesee River. The 5K is an out-and-back course primarily utilizing city streets and a portion of the Genesee River Trail, while the 10K extends further along the trail, crossing the river on pedestrian bridges for a more expansive view before returning to the park. Race day conditions typically see highs around 76°F and lows around 56°F, with a 13% chance of precipitation, providing pleasant weather for a run. Runners consistently praise the friendly atmosphere, clearly marked course, and the welcoming environment for both competitive runners and beginners, with many participants bringing their canine companions to enjoy the festivities.
Beyond the races, The Fast & The Furriest® is a full-blown pet festival, featuring live music, food trucks, sponsor giveaways, vendors, pet contests, and local pet organizations. A unique highlight is the free vaccination clinic offering rabies and DAPP vaccines, plus microchipping for pets. Your participation directly supports the Verona Street Animal Society, providing essential resources and a second chance for animals in the community. Join hundreds of fellow animal lovers and runners for an unforgettable experience that makes a real difference.
