Lace up for an unforgettable multi-day running experience at the Thousand Islands Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, set for May 15-16, 2026, in the breathtaking Thousand Islands region of New York. This exciting annual event offers a unique split-day format, kicking off with a Friday evening 5K at the picturesque Thousand Islands Winery in Alexandria Bay, followed by the Half Marathon and 10K races on Saturday morning on scenic Wellesley Island. Runners will be treated to stunning river views and a chance to run alongside the iconic Thousand Islands and under the majestic Thousand Islands Bridge.
The courses are designed to showcase the natural beauty of the area. The Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile journey, features a rolling, partially paved route with an elevation gain of approximately 143 meters, taking participants under the Thousand Islands Bridge and along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The 10K (6.2 miles) also offers a scenic, rolling course on Wellesley Island with around 53 meters of elevation gain, providing spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River. For a flatter challenge, the 3.1-mile 5K is a road course that includes a unique loop around the vineyard at the Thousand Islands Winery. Hydration and aid stations, stocked with water and Gatorade, will be available along the courses, supported by students from the Alexandria Central School Sports Booster Club.
What truly sets this race apart are its memorable experiences and challenging options. Ambitious runners can take on the "Island Double" (5K & 10K) or the "Island Super Double" (5K & Half Marathon). The Half Marathon and 10K races start and finish at the Lake Course Executive Country Club on Wellesley Island, while the 5K begins at the Thousand Islands Winery. Participants can expect fantastic post-race festivities, awards ceremonies, and "the best swag around". Typical race day conditions in mid-May bring comfortable highs around 67°F and lows around 42°F, with only a 15% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather.
