Thunder River

Embark on an unforgettable trail adventure at the Thunder River race, set for November 7, 2026, in the stunning Cascade Locks, Oregon. Offering both a challenging 50K and a spirited 25K, this event is your perfect opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area before winter arrives. Runners will traverse a course renowned for its world-class scenery, vibrant fall colors, and epic views, with typical race day conditions seeing highs around 54F and lows near 42F, accompanied by a 39% chance of precipitation.

Both distances are largely point-to-point, guiding participants along significant stretches of the iconic Gorge 400 Trail and the legendary Pacific Crest Trail. Prepare for a varied terrain featuring primarily rocky, technical singletrack interspersed with smoother dirt sections. The course is generally runnable but includes punchy climbs and very rocky segments, particularly through open talus slopes, with some paved sections connecting trails later in the race. The 50K boasts approximately 5,000 feet of elevation gain, while the 25K offers around 2,300 feet of gain. Along the way, runners will be treated to views of Pacific Crest Falls, Herman Creek pinnacles, Eagle Creek, Elowah Falls, and countless vistas across the mighty Columbia River, culminating in a dramatic pass under the Bridge of the Gods.

The race culminates with a unique trail loop around Thunder Island, an oasis in the Columbia River, before a celebratory finish at Marine Park in Cascade Locks. Full-service aid stations, well-stocked with gels, hydration, and various ultra fare, along with professional medical support, ensure a well-supported journey. Marine Park serves as the central hub, offering ample amenities and a festive post-race atmosphere where participants can enjoy a well-deserved meal and celebrate their achievements.
