TopCity Half Marathon

The TopCity Half Marathon and 5K, set for Saturday, May 2, 2026, invites runners to experience the heart of Topeka, Kansas, with a course designed to showcase both its scenic trails and charming neighborhoods. Starting in downtown Topeka, participants will enjoy a unique pass around the majestic Kansas State Capitol grounds before heading onto the popular Shunga running trail, often via the Landon Nature Trail. The route winds through historic areas like Westboro, Collins, and Potwin, offering a mix of paved bike paths and city streets, providing a diverse backdrop of residential areas and natural beauty.

While generally considered relatively flat, the course features a few minor undulations, with runners consistently noting the challenging, uphill push to the finish line in Downtown Topeka's Evergy Plaza. Aid stations along the way are well-stocked with water, Gatorade, and fuel, supported by exceptionally friendly volunteers. Typical race day conditions in early May feature comfortable highs around 71F and lows around 48F, with a relatively low 19% chance of precipitation, creating ideal running weather.

The TopCity Half Marathon prides itself on being a well-organized event with a welcoming atmosphere, even being described as "back of the pack friendly." Finishers are awarded unique, hefty slider medals, often incorporating a course map design.
