Tour die Kapellen

The Tour die Kapellen, or "Tour of the Chapels," invites cyclists of all levels to Hays, Kansas, on July 11, 2026, for a truly unique cycling experience. This event, born in 2019, is a vibrant celebration of the region's rich Volga-German heritage, combining the challenge of a ride with cultural immersion and stunning rural scenery. Participants will pedal through the picturesque landscapes of Ellis County, visiting historic limestone churches in communities like Catherine, Victoria, Pfeifer, Munjor, Schoenchen, and Antonino. At each stop, professional musicians from the Hays Symphony offer captivating performances, adding a distinctive soundtrack to your journey.

Offering a wide array of distances, including 15, 30, 50, 52, 54, 100 kilometers, and 100 miles, the Tour die Kapellen caters to every rider. The 15-mile route provides a guided, flat-terrain option perfect for beginners, while the longer distances, predominantly on asphalt, include a 54-mile mixed-surface option featuring both gravel and paved roads. Starting from Municipal Park in Hays, routes guide cyclists through the open, rural terrain, offering a serene escape and unforgettable Midwestern hospitality. Typical race day conditions in mid-July include highs around 95°F and lows near 67°F, with a modest 12% chance of precipitation.

Beyond the saddle, the Tour die Kapellen fosters a strong sense of community. Aid stations are strategically located at the historic churches along the routes, providing support and opportunities to experience the local culture. Following the ride, all participants are welcomed back to Municipal Park for an after-ride party, featuring an authentic German meal, beverages, and live music from groups like the Joe Dolezal Polka Band, creating a memorable festive atmosphere.
